History of ISHS and the Learning Lodge

The previous Indigenous Students Health Sciences (ISHS) office was the first office solely dedicated to providing services and supports for the academic success and wellbeing of all First Nations, Inuit and Métis students in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster. Examples of programming included Elders in residence, mentorship, graduate/professional development, student leadership, and community collaborations. The office also engaged with broader Indigenous communities and knowledge shares with non-Indigenous students, staff, faculty, and departments interested in Indigenous health.

In 2021, the office became Indigenous Health Learning Lodge – Student Services. We are now part of a larger team committed to providing services, supports and programming to all Indigenous Students – First Nations, Inuit and Metis – in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
