A variety of supports are available for your professional development. The following are examples of eligible/ineligible activities. Supports you seek may fall outside of the examples provided, thus you are encouraged to apply!

Examples of eligible activities include:

Support for membership fees to professional associations such as the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC) and the Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association (CINA).
Assist with CARMs process.
Support to attend professional association annual mentorship forums and conferences.
Provide assistance for students’ professional development when presenting at conferences. For example, the Canadian Conference on Medical Education
Assist with accessing clerkships and electives off-campus and in communities.
Provide networking opportunities and mentorship with professionals in their field.
Engage in research and clinical practice/internships.
Opportunity to network with other students.
Registration fees (international allowed).
Examples of ineligible activities include:

International travel and expenses.
Purchasing of technology; i.e. new computer.
Events/programs outside of an academic program.

FUNDING ALLOCATION

Each application will be evaluated based on its relevancy to the students’ professional development.
The amount allocated will vary from partial to total cost depending on the total number of funding requests received; amount requested for the event and significance to career/professional development.
Funding must be allocated and expensed by March 31, 2023.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete a post-event report within one week of the event (template provided) including expenses according to IHLL/McMaster financial policies.
Complete a GPP program survey.
All First Nations, Inuit and Métis students in the Faculty of Health Sciences graduate, postgraduate or professional program (full/part-time) are encouraged to apply!

The goal of this program is to enable you to be innovative, develop and demonstrate your leadership skills, as well as enhance your portfolio.

Examples of potential activities could include:

• PGME/UGME networking evening with refreshments
• Indigenous health speaker series
• Producing an Indigenous students e-guide to health sciences survival
• Development and delivery of a cultural event

Ineligible expense:

• Professional development for self (i.e. professional association membership fees, conference registration), please see information about the GPP Program for this
• Purchase of equipment
• International travel and expenses

DEADLINES:

Funding requests will be reviewed and allocated as received. Funding must be spent by March 31, 2023.

All receipts, invoices and event report must be submitted to the ISHS Office within seven business days of the event.
